Density Chemistry calculator
Density Chemistry calculatorDensity
ρ = m/V · Mass · Volume · Material Intelligence
ρ = m / V | Water: 1.00 g/cm³ | Iron: 7.87 g/cm³ | Gold: 19.32 g/cm³
About the Density Chemistry calculator
Find the density, mass or volume of a substance from the other two values, with mass entered in several units.
How to use the Density Chemistry calculator
- Choose what to solve for under Solve For.
- Enter the Mass (choose g, kg, mg or lb) and Volume (cm³), or the density.
- Press Calculate.
Formula and method
ρ = m ÷ V, so m = ρ × V and V = m ÷ ρ.
Worked example
27 g of aluminium occupying 10 cm³ has a density of 2.7 g/cm³.
Tips
- Water has a density of about 1 g/cm³, so substances with a lower density float on it.
- Density changes with temperature.
Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply by 1,000. Water is 1 g/cm³ = 1,000 kg/m³.
