About the Time Zone Calculator
Convert a time from one time zone to another so you can schedule meetings and calls across countries without mistakes.
How to use the Time Zone Calculator
- Enter Your Local Time and choose Your Time Zone (From).
- Choose the Convert To Time Zone.
- Press Convert Time to see the equivalent time there.
Formula and method
Each zone is an offset from UTC. Convert the source time to UTC by subtracting its offset, then add the target offset. Daylight saving changes the offset for part of the year in many regions.
Worked example
9:00 AM in New York (UTCβ5, winter) is 14:00 in London (UTC+0) and 11:00 PM in Tokyo (UTC+9).
When to use the Time Zone Calculator
- Finding a meeting time that works for people in different countries.
- Checking what time it is in another city before you call.
- Planning travel and flight arrival times.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Forgetting daylight saving time. Countries switch on different dates.
- Assuming a whole country has one time zone. Some, such as the US and Russia, have many.
Tips
- Countries start and end daylight saving on different dates, so the gap can change for a few weeks each year.
- When scheduling, state the time zone in the invitation.
