About the Password Strength Checker
Test how strong a password is and get tips to improve it.
How to use the Password Strength Checker
- Type a password to test.
- Press Analyze Strength.
- Read the score, the estimated time to crack it, and the advice.
Formula and method
Strength depends mostly on length and randomness. Entropy β length Γ logβ(number of possible characters). A random 8-letter lowercase password has about 37.6 bits, while 12 random letters and numbers has about 71.5 bits.
Tips
- Length matters most. A passphrase of four or more random words is strong and easy to remember.
- Never reuse passwords, and use a password manager.
- Avoid testing your real password on any website. Test a similar one instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
