How to use the Currency Converter

- The converted amount updates using the latest rate.
Formula and method
Converted amount = amount Γ exchange rate, where the exchange rate is how many units of the target currency one unit of the source currency buys.
Worked example
If 1 USD buys 0.92 EUR, then 250 USD = 250 Γ 0.92 = 230 EUR.
When to use the Currency Converter
- Checking how much a price abroad is in your own currency.
- Planning a trip budget in a foreign currency.
- Estimating the value of an international payment or invoice.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the rate you see is the rate you will get. Banks, card issuers and exchange counters add a margin or fees.
- Ignoring fees on ATM withdrawals and card payments abroad.
- Using a rate that is several days old for a large transfer.
Tips
- Banks, card networks and money-transfer services add a margin or fee to the market rate, so the amount you actually receive is usually a little lower.
- Exchange rates change constantly. Check the rate again just before you send money.
- Use a transfer service that shows the total cost in advance.
