About the Construction Cost calculator
Get a rough estimate for a building project from the floor area, quality level, labour and contingency.
How to use the Construction Cost calculator
- Choose the Material & Finish Quality: Standard, Premium or Luxury Elite.
- Enter the Total Area (Sq Ft) and the Cost per Sq Ft (Base).
- Set the Labor Cost (%) and Contingency / Buffer (%), then press Generate Full Estimate.
Formula and method
Base cost = area × cost per sq ft (adjusted for quality). Labour is added as a percentage, then a contingency percentage is added on top.
Tips
- Keep at least 10 to 15 percent contingency. Construction rarely goes exactly to plan.
- Get several written quotes from local contractors.
- Local prices differ widely, so replace the base rate with a figure for your area.
